NCAA South: Eagles Shock Aztecs, Make History; Jayhawks Turn Back Heels; Gators Too Much For Gophers


Three games were played on Sunday in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's South Regional.

At Kansas City, Missouri:

Travis Releford scored 22 points while Jeff Withey added 16 to go with his 16 rebounds as the top-seeded Kansas Jayhawks (31-5) overcame a nine-point halftime deficit and upended the #8-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels (25-11) 70-58.

At Austin, Texas:

Mike Rosario scored 25 points as the #3-seeded Florida Gators (28-7) defeated #11-seeded Minnesota (21-13) 78-64 despite 25 points from the Golden Gophers' Andre Hollins.

At Philadelphia:

Bernard Thompson, one of five player who scored in double-figures, delivered 23 points as the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles (26-10) became the first-ever #15 seed to advance to the Sweet Sixteen with their 81-71 victory over seventh-seeded San Diego State (23-11) , despite a 20-point, 11-rebound effort from the Aztecs' Jamaal Franklin.  The Eagles shot 55.9% from the field in the game.
