The Indians, who still lead three games to two, can still wrap up their first world championship since 1948 with a game-six win back home in Cleveland on Tuesday night.

Matteo Mancosu scored the only goal of the match in the 61st minute as the Montreal Impact defeated the visiting New York Red Bulls 1-0 in game one of their conference semifinal series, which will conclude next Sunday at Harrison, New Jersey (1:00 PM Pacific Time, ESPN).
At Toronto:
Jozy Altidore (84') and Tosaint Ricketts (90'+2) each scored once as Toronto FC blanked visiting New York City 2-0 in the opening match of their two game conference semifinal series, spoiling the Citizens' playoff debut.

At Corvallis, Oregon:
Quarterback Luke Falk threw for 415 yards and five touchdowns (two to Gabe Marks, one each to Tavares Martin, Jr. and Robert Lewis) as the Washington State Cougars (6-2 overall, 5-0 in Pac-12 play) overcame first-half deficits of 21-0 and 24-6 (halftime) and upended the Oregon State Beavers (2-6, 1-4) 35-31 on the road on Saturday night.
At Chicago:
Corey Kluber pitched six innings of solid baseball on Saturday while Carlos Santana (solo shot, second inning) and Jason Kipnis (three-runner, seventh; that's him, on the center, ceelbrating with Coco Crisp afterward) each delivered a home run as the Cleveland Indians smothered the Chicago Cubs 7-2 on the road in the fourth game of the World Series.
The Indians, who lead the series three games to one, can lay claim to their first World Series title since 1948 with a game-five victory at Chicago's Wrigley Field on Sunday.
No team has come back from a three-games-to-one deficit to win a World Series since 1985, when the Kansas City Royals upended the St. Louis Cardinals.

At Eugene, Oregon:
The Oregon Ducks (3-5 overall, 1-4 in Pac-12 play), with quarterback Justin Herbert throwing for a school single-game record-tying 489 yards and four touchdowns on Saturday, snapped their five-game losing streak with a 54-35 home win over the Arizona State Sun Devils (5-4, 2-4).
At Regina, Saskatchewan:
Jonathan Jennings threw for two touchdowns and Jeremiah Johnson ran for another on Saturday as the British Columbia Lions (11-6) downed the Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-12) 24-6 on the road in a Canadian Football League contest that was the Riders' final game at Mosaic Stadium.
Word came on Friday that Northwest Cable News is set to close up shop this coming January.

Roberto Perez hit two home runs (a solo shot and a three-runner) while Corey Kluber, Andrew Miller, and Cody Allen combined on a 15-strikeout shutout as the Cleveland Indians smothered the visiting Chicago Cubs 6-0 in Tuesday's opening game of the World Series. Here, we see the aforementioned Mr. Kluber and Mr. Perez, who were the two big heroes for the Indians, who are three victories away from their first World Series crown since 1948.

Bobby Vee, who became a teenage idol in the early 1960s with such hits as "Take Good Care of My Baby," and "The Night Has A Dozen Eyes," passed away on Monday at Rogers, Minnesota from complications of Alzheimer's disease at age 73.
Mr. Vee's career got off to a fairytale start with his show-business baptism coming at age 15 when he was pressed to fill in for Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. (The Big Bopper) Richardson lost their lives in a plane crash in Iowa in early 1959 en route to a concert in Morehead, Minnesota.
Bobby would score 38 singles in Billboard's Hot 100 chart from 1959 to 1970.
At Santa Clara, California:
Quarterback Jameis Winston threw for three touchdowns on Sunday as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-3) overcame an early 14-point deficit and manhandled the San Francisco 49ers (1-6) 34-17 on the road.
The defeat was the niners' sixth successive as San Francisco is on its' longest losing skid since 2008.
At Vancouver, British Columbia:
Giles Barnes scored twice (13', 32') as the Vancouver Whitecaps dominated the visiting Portland Timbers 4-1 in the Major League Soccer season finale for both clubs on Sunday.
The defeat not only cost the Timbers a shot at qualifying for the MLS Cup Playoffs (the first time that has happened to a reigning champ in ten years), it handed the Cascadia Cup to the Whitecaps.
The Timbers ended up going winless on the road in league play, dropping their final seven away matches.
At Chicago:
Starter Kyle Hendricks and relief man Aroldis Chapman combined on a two-hit shutout while Anthony Rizzo and Willson Contreras each hit a home run on Saturday night as the Chicago Cubs locked up their first National League Pennant (and first World Series berth) in 71 years with a 5-0 smothering of the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers in game six of the National League Championship Series, which the Cubs won four games to two.
Two Cubs, second baseman Javier Baez and pitcher Jon Lester, shared the series' Most Valuable Player award.
The Cubs will open up the World Series against the Indians in Cleveland on Tuesday, in search of their first world championship since 1908.
The Cleveland Indians are searching for their first World Series crown since 1948.
At Seattle:
The Washington Huskies (7-0 overall, 4-0 in Pac-12 play; #5 in both the Associated Press and USA Today/Amway Coaches polls) dominated the visiting Oregon State Beavers (2-5, 1-3) 41-17 on Saturday. Huskies' quarterback Jake Browning completed 14 of 28 passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns while Myles Gaskin carried the ball 18 times for 128 yards and another score.
At Regina, Saskatchewan:
Quarterback Vernon Adams, Jr. completed 11 of 24 passes on Saturday for 177 yards and a touchdown as the Montreal Alouettes (5-11) ended the Saskatchewan Roughriders' (5-11) four-game Canadian Football League winning streak 19-14 on the road.
At Berkeley, California:
Matt Anderson recovered from missing a game-winning field-goal attempt at the end of regulation on Friday night by kicking the go-ahead three-pointer in the second overtime, then Jordan Kunaszyk came up with the game-ending interception as the California Golden Bears (4-3 overall, 2-2 in Pac-12 play) recovered from blowing a 20-point second-half lead to defeat the visiting Oregon Ducks (2-5, 0-4) 52-29.
The Ducks have now dropped five straight contests, their longest losing skid since 1996.

Rolando Blackburn's goal in the 23rd minute on Wednesday enabled Deportivo Saprissa to gain a 1-1 road with the Portland Timbers, enough for the Costa Rican club to win Group B and advance to the quarterfinals.
Jack McInerney scored for the Timbers in the 57th minute as Portland had to settle for a home draw when a win was needed to advance to the knockout stage.
Portland's final Major League Soccer regular-season contest will at Vancouver in a Cascadia Cup clash against the Whitecaps on Sunday at 1:00 PM Pacific Time (ROOT Sports Northwest). The Timbers still have a legitimate shot at qualifying for the MLS Cup Playoffs.

At Portland, Oregon:
Fanendo Adi successfully converted a penalty kick in the 35th minute on Sunday as the Portland Timbers, in their regular-season home finale, defeated the visiting Colorado Rapids 1-0 to keep their Major League Soccer playoff chances alive.
The Timbers' next match is this coming Wednesday night at 10:00 PM Pacific Time as they conclude Group B play in the CONCACAF Champions League, needing a home victory over Costa Rica's Deportivo Saprissa to advanced to that tournament's quarterfinal round.

With Portland and Los Angeles apparently out of business and Orlando quitting or possibly defecting and Jacksonville itself jumping ship (perhaps along with Arizona), the Arena Football League is taking on the appearence of the original North American Soccer League on its' death rattle.
At Washington:
Joc Pederson's homer keyed a four-run seventh inning, then Clayton Kershaw, who already won twice in the series, got the last two outs in the ninth inning for his first Major League Baseball career save as the Los Angeles Dodgers held off the home-standing Washington Nationals 4-3 in the fifth and deciding contest of their National League divisional playoff series and advanced to the National League Championship Series against the Chicago Cubs, which opens Saturday night in the Windy City.
The Dodgers will be seeking their first pennant since 1988 (when they won their most recent World Series title), the Cubs since 1945 (their last WS crown came in 1908).
Both National League divisional playoff series continued on Tuesday.
At Los Angeles:
Chase Utley delivered the single that produced the go-ahead run with two outs in the eighth inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the visiting Washington Nationals 6-5 to square their divisional playoff series at two games apiece.
The series is set to be decided at Washington on Thursday.
At San Francisco:
Javier Baez delivered the go-ahead run with his single to cap off a four-run ninth inning against five relief pitchers, then Aroldis Chapman struck out the side in the bottom of said inning as the Chicago Cubs erased a three-run deficit to overcome the San Francisco Giants 6-5 and won their divisional playoff series three games to one.
The Cubs will host the opening game of the National League Champions Series (their second successive) on Saturday against the winner of the Los Angeles-Washington series (currently deadlocked at two games apiece) as the Cubs are seeking their first National League pennant since 1945 (and first World Series crown since 1908).

Jayson Werth hit a home run as the Washington Nationals scored four runs in the ninth inning for a 8-3 game-three road win over the Los Angeles Dodgers to take a two-games-to-one divisional playoff series lead.
The Nationals can wrap up the series and advance to their first National League Championship Series since 1981 (as the Montreal Expos) with a win in Los Angeles in game four on Tuesday.
At San Francisco:
Brandon Crawford scored the winning run in the 13th inning on a base hit by Joe Panik as the San Francisco Giants avoided elimination by defeating the visiting Chicago Cubs 6-5 in game three of their divisional playoff series.
The Cubs, who lead the series two games to one, can still secure their second straight National League Championship Series appearance with a game four road win on Tuesday.
At Boston:
Coco Crisp hit a two-run homer on Monday as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Boston Red Sox 4-3 on the road and completed their three-game American League divisional playoff series sweep.
The Indians will face the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League Championship Series (the first for the Tribe since 2007) which opens on Friday in Cleveland.
At Toronto:
Josh Donaldson scampered home from second base in the bottom of the tenth inning on Sunday after Rougned Odor bounced what would have been a double-play relay as the Toronto Blue Jays, in defeating the visiting Texas Rangers 7-6 in game three, swept their American League divisional playoff series in three straight games.
The Blue Jays advanced to their second straight American League Championship Series as a result.
At Washington:
In a contest rescheduled from Saturday due to rain, Jose Lobaton hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning as the Washington Nationals squared their National League divisional playoff series with the Los Angeles Dodgers at one game apiece following their 5-2 game-two home victory on Sunday.
At Corvallis, Oregon:
Quarterback Darrel Garretson ran 16 yards for the game-winning touchdown in overtime as the Oregon State Beavers (2-3 overall, 1-1 in Pac-12 play) blew a 17-point fourth-quarter lead, trailed briefly in overtime, then bounced back for a 47-44 home victory on Saturday over the California Golden Bears (3-3, 1-2).
Beavers running back Ryan Nall ran for 221 yards (almost half of the 474 rushing yards, a school record against a Pac-12 opponent) and three touchdowns (4, 80, and 5 yards).
The victory ended Oregon State's 12-game Pac-12 Conference losing skid.
At Chicago:
In the lone Saturday Major League Baseball playoff contest that was contested , Travis Wood became the first relief pitcher since 1924 to hit a postseason home run as the Chicago Cubs defeated the visiting San Francisco Giants 5-2 in game two of a National League divisional playoff series.
The Cubs, who now lead the series two games to none, can finish off the Giants with a game-three victory on Monday in San Francisco.
On one other note, Saturday's scheduled second game of the Los Angeles-Washington series, with the Dodgers leading one game to none, was postponed to Sunday due to rain.
At Eugene, Oregon:
Quarterback Jake Browning threw for 304 yards and a school-record six touchdowns and ran for two more while running back 197 yards and another TD on Saturday as the Washington Huskies (6-0 overall, 3-0 in Pac-12 play; #5 in the Associated Press poll, #6 in the USA Today/Amway Coaches rankings) snapped a 12-game losing streak against the Oregon Ducks (2-4, 0-3) with a 70-21 demolition on the road.

Lonnie Chisenhall slammed a three-run homer off Boston starter David Price as the Indians, who now lead the series two games to none, look to finish off the Sox (and David Ortiz's career) on Sunday in Boston.
At Santa Clara, California:
Quarterback Drew Stanton threw for two touchdowns to Larry Fitzgerald while running back David Johnson carried the ball 27 times for 157 yards and two more scores on Thursday night as the Arizona Cardinals (2-3) scored 17 points off three San Francisco 49ers (1-4) turnovers in their 33-21 road victory.
Both American League divisional playoff series commenced on Thursday as the Major League Baseball playoffs continued.

Jose Bautista belted a three-run homer in the ninth inning while Marco Estrada carried a shutout into the ninth inning as the Toronto Blue Jays annihilated the Texas Rangers 10-1 on the road in the opening game of a best-of-five divisional playoff series.

Edwin Encarnacion knocked a three-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning on Tuesday night as the Toronto Blue Jays opened the Major League Baseball Playoffs by winning the American League Wild-Card game, 5-2 over the visiting Baltimore Orioles.
The Blue Jays will open an American League divisional playoff series against the Texas Rangers at Arlington, Texas this coming Thursday.

Sebastien Le Toux scored the only goal of the match in the 63rd minute on Saturday night as the Colorado Rapids locked up a berth in the MLS Cup playoffs with a 1-0 home victory over the Portland Timbers.
The Timbers, whose playoff chances suffered a potentially crippling blow with the defeat, remain the only Major League Soccer club to remain winless on the road in league play this season.
In stark contrast, Colorado has remained unbeaten at home.
