Stanley Cup Playoffs: Rangers, Wings, Wild, Ducks Grab Series Openers

Four games were played on Thursday as the Stanley Cup Playoffs continued.

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

At New York:

First-period goals from Derick Brassard (at 28 seconds) and Ryan McDonagh (Power Play at 15:16) and steady goaltending from Henrik Lundqvist (he stopped 25 of 26 shots) carried the New York Rangers to a conference-quarterfinal series-opening 2-1 home win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

At Tampa, Florida:

Pavel Datsyuk scored twice (once on the power play) while Luke Glendening scored a shorthanded third-period tally for the game-winning score as the Detroit Red Wings seized home-ice advantage in their first-round series following their 3-2 game-one road win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.  Petr Mrazek's first playoff start was a memorable one as the Wings' goalie stopped 44 of 46 shots.

At St. Louis:

Two power-play goals (Matt Dumba in the second period; Jason Pominville [empty net]) helped carry the Minnesota Wild to a series-opening 4-2 road win over the St. Louis Blues.

At Anaheim, California:

Corey Perry scored twice in the third period (power play at 69 seconds, shorthanded at 13:21) as the Anaheim Ducks came from behind to upend the visiting Winnipeg Jets 4-2 in game one of their conference quarterfinal series.
