Timbers Dominate Shorthanded Quakes, Climb Back Into Fifth Place In MLS West

At Portland, Oregon:

Rodney Wallace (41') and Diego Valeri (PK-51', 74') delivered the goals on Wednesday night while goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts garnered his fifth shutout of the season as the Portland Timbers dominated the visiting----and depleted----San Jose Earthquakes 3-0 in Major League Soccer action.

The Timbers climbed past the Vancouver Whitecaps back into the fifth and final Western Conference playoff berth with two regular-season contests left.  The Whitecaps, with a game in hand, visit the Seattle Sounders in a critical Cascadia Cup contest on Friday (7:00 PM Pacific Time, NBCSN).

As for Portland, the Timbers will host Real Salt Lake in their final regular-season home match of the season on Friday, October 17 at 7:00 PM Pacific Time (NBCSN).
