MLB Playoffs: Giants, Cardinals Take NL Divisional Playoff Series Openers On Road

Both of the National League's best-of-five divisional playoff series opened on Friday.

At Washington:

Jake Peavy pitched 5 2/3 of shutout baseball as the San Francisco Giants racked up their league-record ninth straight post-season victory by holding off the Washington Nationals 3-2 on the road in the opening game of their divisional playoff series.

At Los Angeles:

Matt Carpenter hit a go-ahead three-run double in an eight-run seventh inning off fading starter Clayton Kershaw as the St. Louis Cardinals battled back to upend the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-9 on the road in the opening contest of their divisional playoff series.
