NCAA South:Bulter Too Much For Winthrop; Blue Raiders Upset Gophers

The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's South Region commenced on Thursday with two games, both contested at Milwaukee's BMO Harris Bradley Center.


In the opener, Avery Woodson scored 18 points---all of them on a career-high-equalizing six three-pointers as the fourth-seeded Butler Bulldogs (24-8) defeated the thirteenth-seeded Winthrop Eagles (26-7) 76-64.

Xavier Cooks topped the Eagles with 23 points.

In the nightcap, Reggie Upshaw scored 19 points as the twelfth-seeded Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (31-4) knocked off the fifth-seeded Minnesota Golden Gophers  (24-10) 81-72.
