The West Coast Conference's men's basketball tournament opened on Friday with two games, both contested at the Orleans Arena in Paradise, Nevada, near Las Vegas.
In the opener, Ray Bowles scored 26 points and converted 11 of 12 foul shots as the ninth-seeded Pacific Tigers (11-21) knocked off the eighth-seeded Pepperdine Waves (9-22) 89-84, despite a career-high 41 points from the Malibu school's Lamond Murray, Jr.
In the nightcap, Jazz Johnson scored 17 points as the tenth-seeded Portland Pilots (11-21), who closed out the regular season by dropping their last 16 conference games, upended seventh-seeded San Diego (13-18) 60-55. Brett Bailey paced the Toreros with 19 points.
