Goals from Victor Bernardez (PK-55') and Steven Lenhart (58') enabled the San Jose Earthquakes to hold off the visiting Portland Timbers 2-1 in Saturday night Major League Soccer action, despite finishing the contest with ten men (they lost Marvin Chavez, whose second yellow card in the space of two minutes resulted in a red-card ejection in the 86th minute).
Darlington Nagbe scored the lone Portland goal in the 84th minute.
The Timbers will play host to the Vancouver Whitecaps in a Cascadia Cup clash this coming Saturday at 8:00 PM Pacific Time.

Dennis Farina, Cop-Turned-Actor, Starred On "Law and Order," R.I.P.
Dennis Farina, a 20-year veteran of the Chicago police department who became an actor, then later starred as a detective on such television series as Law and Order and Crime Story, passed away on Monday at Scottsdale, Arizona at age 69.
Mr. Farina's publicist announced his passing. She said that Dennis had recently had a blood clot in his lung.

Here's a kinescope of the June 3, 1950 DuMont Network telecast of Cavalcade of Stars, hosted at the time by comedian Jerry Lester (who left the show and network shortly thereafter to become one of the headliners on NBC's Broadway Open House; he would be replaced by Jackie Gleason).
Among Jerry's guests that night, which marked the series' one-year anniversary, were actors John Garfield, Kim Stanley, and Jane Pickens, as well as ventriloquist Paul Winchell (and his sidekick Jerry Mahoney). Don Russell, who was a DuMont staff announcer, appeared as a pharmacist for the show's producers, Drugstore Television Productions (representing several regional drug-store chains).
