The Quakes' Darwin Ceran picked up two yellow cards in two minutes late in the opening half and was ejected in the 37th minute, reducing the guests to ten men.

In the lone Sunday Major League Soccer contest---one that had its' start pushed back six hours due to a heat advisory---Jack Jewsbury scored the winning goal in the opening minute of second-half stoppage time as the Portland Timbers---despite seeing two goals disallowed due to offside calls---defeated the visiting San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 for their fifth straight home victory.

Heat Advisory Pushes Timbers Home Match With Quakes Back Six Hours

The Portland Timbers' Major League Soccer home game against the San Jose Earthquakes, originally scheduled for 2:00 PM Pacific Time on Sunday, has been pushed back to 8:00 PM Pacific Time that evening due to a heat advisory.

The match will still be televised live on ESPN 2.

Timbers Dominate Shorthanded Quakes, Climb Back Into Fifth Place In MLS West

The Timbers climbed past the Vancouver Whitecaps back into the fifth and final Western Conference playoff berth with two regular-season contests left.  The Whitecaps, with a game in hand, visit the Seattle Sounders in a critical Cascadia Cup contest on Friday (7:00 PM Pacific Time, NBCSN).

As for Portland, the Timbers will host Real Salt Lake in their final regular-season home match of the season on Friday, October 17 at 7:00 PM Pacific Time (NBCSN).
