Waves, Toreros (Who End Pilots' Season) Open WCC Tourney With Wins In Vegas

At Las Vegas, Nevada:

The West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament opened on Thursday with two games at the Orleans Arena.

Game #1:

Darryl Polk, Jr. came off the bench to score 15 points as the eighth-seeded Pepperdine Waves (14-17) held off the #9-seeded Pacific Tigers (14-18) 61-53, despite 22 points and eleven rebounds from the Tigers' Jeremiah Bailey.

Game #2:

Isaiah Pineiro scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the seventh-seeded San Diego Toreros, with all five starters scoring in double figures, overpowered the hapless, tenth-seeded Portland Pilots (7-25) 67-47 as the Pilots ended their season with eighteen consecutive defeats.
