NCAA South: Nova, Boilermakers Advance

At Hartford, Connecticut:

Two games in the South Region, both contested at the XL Center,  were played on Thursday in the Round of 64 of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

Game #1:

Phil Booth scored 20 points as the sixth-seeded Villanova Wildcats (26-9) commenced their NCAA tourney title defense by holding off the eleventh-seeded Saint Mary's Gaels (22-12) 61-57.

Game #2:

Carsen Edwards scored 26 points as the third-seeded Purdue Boilermakers (24-9) got the measure of the #14-seeded Old Dominion Monarchs (26-9) 61-48.
