NCAA East: Gophers, LSU, Spartans, Terps Advance

The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's Round of 64 commenced on Thursday with 16 games, four of them in the East Region.

At Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines, Iowa:

Game #1:

Gabe Kalscheur scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the tenth-seeded Minnesota Golden Gophers (22-13) knocked off the seventh-seeded Louisville Cardinals (20-14) 86-76.

Christen Cunningham paced the Cards with 22 points.

Game #2:

Cassius Winston scored 26 points as the second-seeded Michigan State Spartans (29-6) held off the fifteenth-seeded Bradley Braves (20-15) 76-65.

Elijah Childs paced the Braves with 19 points.



At VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, Jacksonville, Florida:

Game #1:

Skylar Mays scored 19 points as the third-seeded LSU Tigers (27-6) held off the #14-seeded Yale Bulldogs (22-8) 79-74.

Alex Copeland topped the Ivy League tournament champs with 24 points.

Game #2:

Jalen Smith scored 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as the sixth-seeded Maryland Terrapins (23-10) survived a scare from the eleventh-seeded Belmont Bruins (27-6) 79-77.

Dylan Windler topped the Bruins with 35 points.
