Farewell To The Southern Gentleman

Sonny James, the Alabama-born Country and Western artist who scored more than 20 Number One hits on the C&W charts, starting with the 1957 hit "Young Love," passed away on Monday at a hospice care center in Nashville at age 87.

From 1960 to 1979, Mr. James spent 57 weeks at the top of Billboard's C&W charts.

Nicknamed "The Southern Gentleman," Sonny's biggest hit, "Young Love," topped the Country and Disc Jockey charts in early 1957.

The man who was born James Hugh Loden would hit the Number One spot on the charts a staggering 23 times.
