Timbers Overcome, Then Hold Off Hoops In US Open Cup Play; Advance To Semis For First Time

At Frisco, Texas:

Thanks to goals from Darlington Nagbe (61'), Diego Valeri (63'), and Frederic Piquionne (73'), the Portland Timbers advanced to the semifinal round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament for the first time in franchise history on Wednesday as they came from behind, then held off home-standing FC Dallas 3-2.  It was the Timbers first-ever win in a competitive match in the state of Texas and it stretched Portland's unbeaten streak in all competitions to eighteen games.

The Timbers will visit Real Salt Lake at Sandy, Utah for a US Open Cup semifinal-round match on August 7 (the winner will face the winner of that same day's other semifinal----DC United at Chicago---in the final, which will take place on October 1 or 2).

In the meantime, Portland's next Major League Soccer match will be on the road against the Columbus Crew on July 7. The Timbers have yet to lose on the road this season and have stretched their MLS unbeaten streak to fifteen matches.
