Bobby "Blue" Bland, Singer Who Blended Southern Blues With Soul, R.I.P.

Bobby "Blue" Bland, a distinguished singer whose style fused Southern blues with soul and who recorded such hits as "Turn On Your Love Light", passed away on Sunday at his Memphis home from complications due to an ongoing illness at age 83.

Known as "The Frank Sinatra of the Blues" who was influenced by Nat "King" Cole, Mr. Bland often recorded with lavish arrangements to accompany his smooth vocals.

Tennessee-born Bobby, a contemporary of blues legend B.B. King,  was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
