Timbers Exit Playoffs After Falling To Hoops In PK Thriller

 At Portland, Oregon:


After a 1-1 regulation draw that was following by two fifteen-minute scoreless overtime periods, Reto Ziegler, Franco Jara, Matheus Bressan Bressanelli, Ricardo Pepi (whose equalizer in the third minute of second-half stoppage time forced overtime), Ryan Hollingshead, Matt Hedges, Tanner Tessmann, and Ema Twumasi converted their spot kicks as FC Dallas knocked off the home-standing Portland Timbers 8-7 in an eight-round penalty-kick shootout to advance to the Western Conference semifinals in the MLS Cup Playoffs.


Hoops goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer saved Jorge Villafana's spot kick to preserve the shootout victory.


Jorge scored for the Timbers in the 82nd minute of regulation.

Timbers Hold Off Hoops At Home

At Portland, Oregon:

Brian Fernandez came through once again for the Portland Timbers on Sunday night as his 42nd-minute goal lifted the hosts to a 1-0 Major League Soccer victory over FC Dallas.

He became the first player in MLS history to score at least once in each of his first five games.

Goalkeeper Steve Clark made two saves to preserve the shutout and victory.

The Timbers' next contest will be next Sunday in the Bronx against New York City at 3:30 PM Pacific Time (Fox Sports 1).

Timbers Suffer Tough Road Defeat To Hoops

At Frisco, Texas:

Jesus Ferreira (9') and Reto Zeigler (PK-60') each scored once as FC Dallas held off the visiting Portland Timbers 2-1 in Saturday Major League Soccer action.

Christhian Paredas scored for the Timbers in the 67th minute.

The Timbers will continue their season-opening road swing in Columbus against former head coach Caleb Porter and the Crew this coming Saturday at 4:30 PM Pacific Time (telecast on the Timbers' TV network via KPDX-TV, Portland-Vancouver; streamed live over ESPN+).

Timbers And Hoops Battle To Scoreless Stalemate, Good Enough To Clinch Playoff Berth For Dallas

At Portland, Oregon:

Saturday's match between FC Dallas and the home-standing Portland Timbers ended in a 0-0 stalemate, enabling the guests to lock up a berth in the upcoming MLS Cup Playoffs.

The Timbers were reduced to ten men after Liam Ridgewell was ejected via a straight red card in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time.

The Timbers' next match will be in Sandy, Utah next Saturday against Real Salt Lake at 6:30 PM Pacific Time (ROOT Sports Northwest; streamed live on ESPN+).

Ten-Man Timbers Gain Road Draw With Hoops

At Frisco, Texas:

In Saturday Major League Soccer action, Sebastian Blanco's equalizer in the 47th minute enabled the Portland Timbers, despite finishing the match with ten men after Lawrence Olum's ejection in the 75th minute, to gain a 1-1 road draw with FC Dallas.

Roland Lamah scored in the 36th minute for the Hoops.

Next on Portland's agenda, a road match next Saturday against the Chicago Fire (3:00 PM Pacific Time, Timbers broadcast television network via KPTV of Portland).

Fanendomania Returns As Timbers Blank Hoops At Home

At Portland, Oregon:

With Fanendo Adi scoring both goals (32', 72'), the Portland Timbers racked up their second straight 2-0 Major League Soccer home victory on Saturday, this time at the expense of FC Dallas.

Two saves enabled Jake Gleeson to preserve his third shutout of the season.

The Timbers' next competitive match is this coming Tuesday at Tukwila, Washington as they will visit the Seattle Sounders in a US Open Cup fourth round contest at 7:30 PM Pacific Time (streamed live over YouTube).

Portland's next MLS match is at Commerce City, Colorado against the Colorado Rapids at 6:30 PM Pacific Time (ROOT Sports Northwest).

TImbers And Hoops Battle To 2-2 Stalemate In Frisco (Frisco, Texas, That Is)

At Frisco, Texas:

In Saturday Major League Soccer action, the Portland Timbers, with goals from Fanendo Adi (30') and Sebastian Blanco (71') managed to gain a 2-2 road draw with FC Dallas.  Maximiliano Urruti (61') and Tesho Akindele (80') each scored a second-half goal to help the Hoops come back from behind twice and remain the league's lone unbeaten club.

Next Saturday, the Timbers will pay visit on the San Jose Earthquakes for a match set to kickoff at 7:30 PM Pacific Time and to be broadcast over the Timbers' television network (via KPDX-TV, Portland-Vancouver).

Hoops Too Much For Timbers

At Frisco, Texas:

Mauro Diaz (PK-14'), Victor Ulloa (45'), and Walker Zimmerman (53') each scored once on Saturday as FC Dallas overpowered the visiting Portland Timbers 3-1 in Major League Soccer action.  Diego Valeri averted the shutout for Portland with his 87th-minute tally.

The Timbers, still winless on the road in league play this season, will return home to the friendly confines of Portland's Providence Park for a contest next Saturday against Real Salt Lake (7:30 PM Pacific Time, ROOT Sports Northwest).

Timbers Fall To Hoops On Road

At Frisco, Texas:

Second-half goals scored two minutes apart by Ryan Hollingshead (55') and Walker Zimmerman (57') carried FC Dallas to a 2-1 Wednesday Major League Soccer home win over the Portland Timbers.

Diego Valeri scored for the guests in the third minute.

The Timbers will try to regroup in time for this coming Sunday's home game against New York City at 4:30 PM Pacific Time (Fox Sports 1).

Hoops Too Much For Timbers In Rose City

At Portland, Oregon:

In Wednesday Major League soccer action, Michael Barrios (4'), Fabian Castillo (26'), and Tesho Akindele (29') each scored a first-half goal as FC Dallas held off the Portland Timbers 3-1 on the road.

Darren Mattocks scored his first goal in a Timbers uniform in the 67th minute.

Portland will try once again to snap their winless streak (now at five games) when they host the San Jose Earthquakes at 7:30 PM Saturday night (ROOT Sports Northwest).

Hoops Too Much For Timbers

At Frisco, Texas:

Michael Barrios scored twice (12', 22') as FC Dallas dominated the visiting Portland Timbers 4-1 in Saturday Major League Soccer action.  The win was the Hoops' fifth in a row, the first time that has happened since 1999, when the club was still known as the Dallas Burn.

The Timbers' next match will be at San Jose against the Earthquakes next Sunday at 2:00 PM Pacific Time (ESPN 2).

Timbers Knock Off Hoops, Grab First Win Of Season

At Portland, Oregon:

Nat Borchers (23'), Maximiliano Urruti (62'), and Diego Chara (87') provided the scoring on Saturday night as the Portland Timbers grabbed their first victory of the Major League Season by defeating visiting (and previously unbeaten) FC Dallas 3-1.

The Timbers' next two games are nationally-televised affairs against the two expansion clubs.  Portland will host Orlando City on April 12 at 2:00 PM Pacific Time (ESPN 2), then will head to Yankee Stadium for an April 19 match against New York City FC (4:00 PM Pacific Time, Fox Sports 1).

Timbers Top Hoops; Whitecaps Win, Too; Portland Misses MLS Cup Playoffs

At Frisco, Texas:

With goals from Darlington Nagbe (43', his first of the league season) and Maximiliano Urruti (81'), the  Portland Timbers blanked FC Dallas 2-0 in the road in Saturday Major League Soccer action.  Despite the victory, because of the Vancouver Whitecaps' 1-0 home win later Saturday over the Colorado Rapids (Kendall Waston scoring that contest's lone goal in the 70th minute), the Timbers were eliminated from playoff contention.

Timbers Erase Two-Goal Deficit, Gain Home Draw With Hoops

At Portland, Oregon:

Will Johnson (PK-79') and Pa Modou Kah (90'+4) each delivered a goal on Wednesday night as the Portland Timbers wiped out a two-goal deficit and salvaged a 2-2 Major League Soccer home draw with FC Dallas.  Fabian Castillo (27') and Blas Perez (39') delivered the goals for the Hoops, who ended the game being reduced to nine men.

The Timbers' next league game will be on June 27 at home against Sporting Kansas City at 8:00 PM Pacific Time (KPTV and the Timbers Television Network).  In the interim, they will host the Orlando City U-23s (Premier Development League, which is in the fourth level of American soccer) in a US Open Cup fourth-round contest next Tuesday at 7:30 PM Pacific Time.

Timbers Fall On Road To Hoops In Chippy Clash

At Frisco, Texas:

Mauro Diaz scored the winning goal in the 84th minute on Saturday night as FC Dallas defeated the visiting Portland Timbers 2-1 in a contest that saw both clubs reduced to ten men as both the Timbers' Michael Harrington and the Hoops' Je-Vaughn Watson were each shown a straight red card in the 40th minute and were ejected.

The Timbers, still seeking their first win of the season, begin Cascadia Cup competition next Saturday when they host the Seattle Sounders at 12:00 Noon Pacific Time (NBC Sports Network).

Timbers Back On Winning Track After Downing Visiting Hoops

At Portland, Oregon:

On Saturday night, Ryan Johnson (26') and Darlington Nagbe (33') delivered first-half goals as the Portland Timbers defeated visiting FC Dallas 2-1 in Major League Soccer action.

The Timbers will host Real Salt Lake this coming Wednesday, then travel to Seattle for a nationally-televised Cascadia Cup clash with the Sounders next Sunday night.

Timbers Overcome, Then Hold Off Hoops In US Open Cup Play; Advance To Semis For First Time

At Frisco, Texas:

Thanks to goals from Darlington Nagbe (61'), Diego Valeri (63'), and Frederic Piquionne (73'), the Portland Timbers advanced to the semifinal round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament for the first time in franchise history on Wednesday as they came from behind, then held off home-standing FC Dallas 3-2.  It was the Timbers first-ever win in a competitive match in the state of Texas and it stretched Portland's unbeaten streak in all competitions to eighteen games.

The Timbers will visit Real Salt Lake at Sandy, Utah for a US Open Cup semifinal-round match on August 7 (the winner will face the winner of that same day's other semifinal----DC United at Chicago---in the final, which will take place on October 1 or 2).

In the meantime, Portland's next Major League Soccer match will be on the road against the Columbus Crew on July 7. The Timbers have yet to lose on the road this season and have stretched their MLS unbeaten streak to fifteen matches.

Darlington Nagbe Helps Timbers Show Hoops Who's Boss

At Portland, Oregon:

A sensational goal from Darlington Nagbe in the 52nd minute on Saturday enabled the Portland Timbers to knock off Western Conference-leading FC Dallas 1-0 at home in Major League Soccer action.  The Timbers climbed within two points of the Hoops (who have the highest point total in MLS) in the conference standings.  The Timbers MLS-era club-record unbeaten streak has now reached 13 games (15 in all competitions).  Portland will visit the Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday night at the StubHub (former Home Depot) Center in Carson, California.

Timbers And Hoops Extend Unbeaten Runs To Eight Games After 1-1 Draw In Frisco (Texas, That Is)

At Frisco, Texas:

Kenny C0oper delivered the game-tying penalty kick in the 77th minute after a controversial foul was called in the penalty area on Andrew Jean-Baptiste as FC Dallas battled to salvage a 1-1 home draw with the Portland Timbers in Wednesday night Major League Soccer action.  Darlington Nagbe gave the Timbers a short-lived 1-0 lead after scoring in the 70th minute.  Both clubs' respective unbeaten streaks have now reached eight games.
