Ralph Branca, the Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher who gave up the pitch in which Bobby Thomson hit the home run that enabled the New York Giants to win the National League pennant in 1951, passed away on Wednesday at age 90.
During the course of his 12-year Major League Baseball career, Mr. Branca was a three-time All-Star.
