At Shreveport, Louisiana:
Quarterback Michael Brewer threw for 344 yards (277 of them to Isaiah Ford---75 of those yards for a touchdown) on Saturday as the Virginia Tech Hokies (7-6), in Frank Beamer's final game as head football coach (after 29 years and 238 wins), held off the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (6-7) 55-52 in the Independence Bowl.
The Hokies played in a bowl game for the 23rd consecutive season.
