Colts Vs. Niners, 1948

Here's the cover for the program for the October 10, 1948 game between the Baltimore Colts and visiting San Francisco 49ers.

That was while both clubs were members of the All-America Football Conference.



Both teams, along with the Cleveland Browns, were welcomed into the National Football League in December, 1949 as part of the "merger" between the two leagues.

The original Colts franchise lasted three years (1947-50) in the AAFC, but only one (1950) in the NFL before going out of business.

A new Baltimore Colts franchise (the one now based in Indianapolis) came into existence in 1953, following the demise of the Dallas Texans, whose roster the new Colts inherited.
