Gary Winston scored 18 points on New Year's Day while Braxton Tucker added 16 as the Portland State Vikings (1-0 in Big Sky play, 7-4 overall) edged the Southern Utah Thunderbirds (0-1, 3-9) 71-68 in the Big Sky Conference openers for both schools.
