Baseball Hall-of-Famer Ernie Banks, a two-time National League Most Valuable Player who played 19 seasons with the Chicago Cubs (1953-71) and who hit 512 home runs, passed away on Friday at age 83.
Mr. Banks, known to one and all as "Mr. Cub," played his entire career with the Cubs. Besides his 512 homers, Ernie hit 407 doubles, had 2,583 hits and 1,636 runs batted in.
A 12-time All-Star, he led the National League in homers and RBIs twice.
Ernie was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977.
