Beavers Drop Season Opener

At Corvallis, Oregon:

Sterling Smith scored a career-high 21 points on Sunday as the Coppin State Eagles (1-1) picked up their first-ever victory over a Pac-12 team, 78-73 on the road against the Oregon State Beavers (0-1), ruining the Beavers' regular-season opener, despite a career-high 36 points from OSU's Roberto Nelson.  The Beavers, who last qualified for the NCAA Tournament when President Bush (George H.W., that is) was in the White House (1990), were playing without the suspended Devon Collier and Eric Moreland.
