College Football Playoff: Late Touchdown Sends Hurricanes Into Title Game

At State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Arizona: 

Quarterback Carson Beck completed 23 of 37 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns and ran for the winning TD with 18 seconds remaining in regulation time on Thursday as the tenth-seeded Miami Hurricanes (13-2) upended the sixth-seeded Ole Miss Rebels (13-2) 31-27 in first of two College Football Playoff semifinals (the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl). 

Running back Mark Fletcher rushed for 133 yards for the Canes. 

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambers completed 23 of 37 passes for 277 yards and a touchdown while running back Kewan Lacy ran for 73 yards for a TD in the second quarter. 

Miami will play  in the CFP National Championship Game on Monday, January 19 against the winner of Friday's Oregon-Indiana game (also known as the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta (4:30 PM PST, ESPN).

Sugar Bowl: Ole Miss Too Much For OK State

At New Orleans:

In the last of the New Year's Six bowl games, quarterback (and game MVP) Chad Kelly threw for 302 yards and four touchdowns (three of them to Laquon Treadwell) as the Ole Miss Rebels (#12 in the final College Football Playoff rankings; 10-3) dismantled the Oklahoma State Cowboys (#16 in CFP; 10-3) 48-20 in Friday's Sugar Bowl.

Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl: Horned Frogs Spank Ole Miss

At Atlanta:

Quarterback Trevone Boykin threw for three touchdowns (two of them to Josh Doctson, one to Aaron Green, who also ran for a score) as the Texas Christian Horned Frogs (12-1), stinging from their failing for qualify for the College Football Playoff, ran roughshod over the Ole Miss Rebels (9-4) 42-3 in Wednesday's Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, the opening game of the New Year's Six, more or less the successor to the late, lamented Bowl Championship Series.

Stefan Makes Ducks Moody As He Spurs Ole Miss Past Oregon In Eugene

At Eugene, Oregon:

Stefan Moody capped off a 22-point performance on Sunday with a two-handed dunk with 36 second remaining as the Ole Miss Rebels (6-2) knocked off the Oregon Ducks (5-3) 79-73 on the road, despite 21 points from the Ducks' Dillon Brooks.

Music City Bowl: Bo Knows As Ole Miss Holds Off Georgia Tech

At Nashville:

Bo Wallace threw for 256 yards and a touchdown and ran for two more scores as the Ole Miss Rebels (8-5) won their sixth straight bowl game on Monday with a 25-17 victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (7-6) in the Music City Bowl.

Ducks Hold Off Rebels In OT On Road

At Oxford, Mississippi:

Mike Moser scored 24 points and Jonathan Loyd added 23 (to go with his 15 assists) on Sunday as the Oregon Ducks (#13 in both the Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches polls; 8-0) outlasted Ole Miss (6-2) 115-105 on the road despite a career-high 39 points from the Rebels' Marshall Henderson.

BBVA Compass Bowl: Ole Miss Dominates Pitt

At Birmingham, Alabama:

Bo Wallace threw for three touchdowns on Saturday as the Ole Miss Rebels (7-6) dominated the Pittsburgh Panthers (6-7) 38-17 in the BBVA Compass Bowl.

The game was the Panthers' finale as a Big East Conference team.  Pittsburgh joins the Atlantic Coast Conference next season.

At Eugene, Oregon:


Quarterback Darron Thomas, making his first start, completed 13 of 23 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns while Kenjon Barner ran for a career-high 147 yards and four scores before catching a pass for another TD as the #11 (AP Poll) Oregon Ducks annihilated visiting New Mexico 72-0 on Saturday in the regular-season opener for both teams.  In this contest, Cliff Harris became the first Duck ever to run back two punts for touchdowns in the same game, scoring on runbacks of 61 and 64 yards.


Meanwhile, at Oxford, Mississippi:


Coming off the bench in his first game in an Ole Miss uniform, exiled Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli completed seven of ten passes for 109 yards and was intercepted once as the Rebels blew a 31-10 halftime lead and lost in double overtime 49-48 at home to FCS (formerly Division 1-AA) school Jacksonville State of Alabama, a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.

Dexter McCluster Leads Ole Miss To Victory In Sloppy Cotton Bowl

At Arlington, Texas:

Running back Dexter McCluster ran for 182 and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score from two yards out on a direct snap with 4:03 remaining as Ole Miss defeated Oklahoma State 21-7 Saturday in the error-plagued A T & T Cotton Bowl. Both teams finished the season at 9-4.
