OT TD LIFTS BAMA PAST DAWGS FOR FIFTH NATIONAL TITLE IN NINE YEARS; SIXTH NATIONAL TITLE FOR NICK SABAN (TIES HIM WITH BEAR FOR RECORD)

At Atlanta:

In Monday's College Football Playoff National Championship Game, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw 41 yards to fellow true freshman Devonta Smith for the game-winning touchdown in overtime as the Alabama Crimson Tide (13-1) overcame a 13-point halftime deficit to upend the Georgia Bulldogs (13-2) 26-20 to win their fifth national title in nine years.

Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban has tied former Alabama head coach Paul "Bear" Bryant for most national titles in the poll era (which commenced in 1936) with six (five at 'Bama and one at LSU).
