AT LAST: AMERICAN PHAROAH LEADS WIRE-TO-WIRE, WINS BELMONT, ENDS 37-YEAR TRIPLE CROWN DROUGHT

At Elmont, New York:

American Pharoah led wire-to-wire on Saturday in winning the 147th running of the Belmont Stakes and became the 12th horse to win the Triple Crown---the first since Affirmed in 1978.

Trainer Bob Baffert won his first Triple Crown on his fourth try and jockey Victor Espinoza did so on his third.

Frosted finished second, 5 1/2 lengths behind, and Keen Ice finished third.
