Lauren Bacall, the actress whose provocative glamour elevated her to stardom in Hollywood's Golden Age, passed away at age 89 in New York City on Tuesday.
Miss Bacall, widow of fellow screen legend Humphrey Bogart, was nicknamed Betty by her friends.
In fact, in 1944, Lauren, in her first movie, "To Have And Have Not," based on the Ernest Hemingway novel, played opposite Mr. Bogart, who became her lover on the set and later her husband.
Lauren's passing was confirmed by her's and Bogie's son Stephen Bogart.
"Betty" won Tony Awards for her performances in "Applause" (1970) and "Woman of the Year" (1981)
