Country and Western singer Jimmy "C" Newman, a long-time veteran of the Grand Ole Opry best remembered for mixing Cajun and country music, passed away on Saturday in Nashville on Saturday at age 86.
After two years on Shreveport's Louisiana Hayride, in which he performed alongside such artists as Elvis Presley, Johnny Horton, and others, Mr. Newman joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1956.
Louisiana-born Jimmy would be part of the Opry for the next 58 years, with his final appearance with his band Cajun Country on June 6 of this year.
His biggest hit came in 1957 when his record of "A Fallen Star" reach #2 on the Billboard country chart and #23 on the magazine's pop survey.
