Pac-12 Tournament: Beavers, Bruins, Cardinal Grab First-Round Wins; Buffaloes Too

The Pacific-12 Conference men's basketball tournament got under way with four first-round contests played in Los Angeles on Wednesday.


In the opener, Devon Collier scored 19 points while Eric Moreland scored all 11 of his in the second half as the ninth-seeded Oregon State Beavers (18-13) held off the eighth-seeded Washington State Cougars (15-16) 69-64.  The Beavers will get their shot at top-seeded Washington on Thursday.


After a sluggish first half, the fifth-seeded UCLA Bruins (19-13) picked up the pace in the second half and defeated the 12th-seeded Southern California Trojans (6-26) 55-40.  Lazeric Jones scored 15 points to pace the Bruins who will take on fourth-seeded Arizona in the quarterfinal round on Thursday.


Chasson Randle scored a career-high 30 points as the seventh-seeded Stanford Cardinal (21-10) blitzed the tenth-seeded Arizona State Sun Devils (10-21) 85-65 to set up a Thursday encounter with the California Golden Bears.


In the Wednesday finale, the sixth-seeded Colorado Buffaloes defeated the eleventh-seeded Utah Runnin' Utes 53-41.  Andre Roberson scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Buffaloes, who will get their shot at third-seeded Oregon on Thursday night.
