Pat Harrington, Jr. the actor-comedian who is best remembered for his portrayal of apartment-building superintendent Dwayne Schneider on the CBS sitcom One Day at a Time (1975-84), passed away on Wednesday at Los Angeles at age 86.
The cause of Mr. Harrington's passing was complications from Alzheimer's disease and a recent fall, according to his manager.
The Manhattan-born son of a vaudevillian, Pat also played the role of the Italian Guido Panzini on television shows headlined by such luminaries as Steve Allen and Jack Paar in the late 1950s and early '60s.
Pat also voiced the Inspector in a series of theatrical cartoons (1965-69) produced by DePatie-Freleng Enterprises (released through United Artists) that were based on the character played on Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther motion pictures.
