Charles Van Doren, Quiz-Show Whiz Who Really Wasn't, R.I.P.
Charles Van Doren, the Columbia University English professor who became the most acclaimed of all the big-money quiz show contestants in the 1950s who then fessed up to Congress that it was all a scam, passed away on Tuesday in Canaan, Connecticut at age 93.
Mr. Van Doren's passing was due to natural causes.

Will we ever see another American Football League; that is one that would end up becoming a truly successful alternative to the NFL?
The odds aren't too good.
The AFL was the only one of the startup leagues that popped up in the years after World War II to truly be successful, though four former AAFC clubs did make it into the NFL, with the Cleveland Browns playing in six straight NFL title games after winning all four All-America Conference crowns (1946-49).
