Four games were contested in the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Tuesday.
EASTERN CONFERENCE:
At Columbus, Ohio:
Alexandre Texler scored twice (once on the power play) as the Columbus Blue Jackets outslugged the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning 7-3 to complete a four-game sweep of their conference quarterfinal series and advanced to the second round for the first time in their history.
The Lightning became the first team to win the President's Trophy (for having the league's best overall record) then be swept in the opening round of the playoffs; in fact, this is the first time this has happened since the start of the expansion era (1967-68).
At Pittsburgh:
Jordan Eberle, Brock Nelson, and Josh Bailey (empty net) each scored once while Robin Lehner stopped 32 of 33 shots as the New York Islanders defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1 to complete their first four-game playoff series sweep since 1983, when they swept the Edmonton Oilers to win their fourth straight Stanley Cup championship.
WESTERN CONFERENCE:
At St. Louis:
Kyle Connor scored the game winner at 6:02 of overtime as the Winnipeg Jets knocked off the St. Louis Blues 2-1 on the road in game four of their conference quarterfinal series, now level at two games apiece.
At Las Vegas:
Max Pacioretty scored twice (once on the power play) while Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all 28 shots for his 15th career playoff shutout as the Vegas Golden Knights filet the visiting San Jose Sharks 5-0 in game four of their opening-round series that the Knights now lead three games to one.
Vegas can close out the series with a Thursday night game-five victory in San Jose.
