Gator Bowl: Wildcats Top Bulldogs, Win First Bowl Since '49

At Jacksonville, Florida:

A first-quarter interception from Quentin Williams was returned 29 yards for a touchdown while a lake pickoff from Nick Vanhoose ran it back 39 yards to set up another score as the Northwestern Wildcats (#20 in the Bowl Championship Series standings, #21 in the Associated Press poll, and #17 in the USA Today/Coaches rankings; 10-3) completed their first ten-win campaign since 1995 by defeating the Mississippi State Bulldogs (8-5) 34-20 in Tuesday's Gator Bowl Game.

The win was the Wildcats' first in a bowl game since 1949, ending an NCAA record-tying streak of nine straight bowl losses.
