Riders Throttle BC Lions In Vancouver

At Vancouver, British Columbia:

William Powell (NOT that one) ran for 146 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday as the Saskatchewan Roughriders (3-3) demolished the British Columbia Lions (1-6) 45-18 on the road in Canadian Football League action.

No Diego Chara? No Problems For Timbers As Portland Demolishes Galaxy At Home

At Portland, Oregon:

Cristhian Paredes scored twice (37', 81') while Diego Valeri (41') and Jeremy Ebobisse (88') each tallied once as the Portland Timbers demolished the ten-man Los Angeles Galaxy 4-0 at home in Saturday night Major League Soccer action.

This marked the Timbers first victory in a match without the suspended Diego Chara in league play (regular season or postseason) since July 5, 2015.

Goalkeeper Steve Clark racked up his fourth MLS shutout of the season with a spectacular six-save performance.

The Galaxy's Efrain Alvarez was ejected via a straight red card.

The Timbers' next match is on Sunday, August 4th as they visit Minnesota United FC at St. Paul at 1:00 PM Pacific Time (ESPN).

Reed Farrell, Former St. Louis DJ Who Was Filmed Smashing Rock 'N' Roll Records In 1958, R.I.P.

Reed Farrell, a former disc jockey who later went on to become president of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, passed away on July 6 at age 89.

In 1958, Mr. Farrell, when he worked at a St. Louis radio station as shown in the above clip, was filmed smashing rock 'n' roll records, proclaiming that rock and roll was finished at station KWK.

Timbers Knock Off LAFC On Road To Advance To First Open Cup Semifinals Since 2013

At Los Angeles:

Jeremy Ebobisse scored the only goal of the match in the 84th minute on Wednesday as the Portland Timbers upended the Los Angeles Football Club 1-0 in US Open Cup quarterfinal-round action.

The Timbers advanced to their first Open Cup semifinal round in six years and will face Minnesota United on the road in a semifinal match.

Portland's next Major League Soccer encounter will be this coming Saturday night against the Colorado Rapids at home at 8:00 PM Pacific Time (Timbers TV Network via KPDX-TV, Portland-Vancouver; ESPN+).
