Stanley Cup Playoffs: Senators, Penguins Win Series Openers

Both Eastern Conference semifinal series opened on Thursday as the Stanley Cup Playoffs continued.

At Ottawa:

Erik Karlsson scored the winning goal with 4:11 remaining in regulation as the Ottawa Senators took the opening contest with the New York Rangers 2-1 at home.  

Craig Anderson stopped 34 of 35 shots to preserve the victory for the Senators.

At Washington:

Sydney Crosby scored twice in a space of 52 seconds in the second period while Nick Bonino scored the game winner in the third period as the Pittsburgh Penguins seized home-ice advantage after their series-opening 3-2 road win over the Washington Capitals.
