In Wednesday night US Open Cup play, Raul Mendiola scored the only goal of the match in the fifth minute as the Los Angeles Galaxy knocked off the Portland Timbers 1-0 on the road to advance to the quarterfinal round where they will host the Seattle Sounders on July 19 or 20 in Carson, California.
The Timbers will return to Major League Soccer play (where they currently enjoy a five-match unbeaten run) on Monday as they visit the Colorado Rapids at Commerce City, Colorado (6:00 PM Pacific Time, ROOT Sports Northwest).
