Frank, Howard, and Dandy Don: Together Again

Frank Gifford, the Hall of Fame New York Giants Halfback and Flanker (1952-60, 1962-64, he missed the '61 season after that hard, but legal hit from Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Chuck Bednarik) perhaps best remembered as a longtime match commentator, both as analyst and play-by-play man to National Football League telecasts, as well as Kathie Lee's husband, passed away on Sunday from natural causes at his Connecticut home at age 84.

Mr. Gifford would have turned 85 years old next Sunday.

Following his retirement from pro football in 1964, Frank would spend several years as an analyst on CBS TV's coverage of NFL football.

In 1971, though, the former USC player switched over to ABC and replaced Keith Jackson as play-by-play----and straight----man to the caustic and sometimes bombastic and goofballish comments from Don Meredith and Howard Cosell on ABC'S NFL Monday Night Football.

Frank would remain with that program until 1998.
