Orioles End Rangers Two-Year Reign As American League Champions

At Arlington, Texas:

Joe Saunders pitched effectively into the sixth inning on Friday night and Adam Jones, with his sacrifice fly, delivered the game-winning run in the same sixth inning as the Baltimore Orioles, in their first postseason match since 1997, added two more runs in the ninth inning as they defeated the Texas Rangers 5-1 to capture the American League's inaugural wild-card playoff game, ending the Rangers' two-year run as AL champions, and earning a berth in the divisional playoffs.

The Orioles will host the New York Yankees in the opening game of their divisional playoff series, which starts on Sunday.
