Niners Batter Bucs To Keep Two-Game Lead Atop NFC West

At San Francisco:

Quarterback Alex Smith threw for 170 yards and three touchdowns (two to tight end Vernon Davis) and Frank Gore racked up his second straight 100-yard game on the ground, picking up 125 yards and a touchdown in the process as the San Francisco 49ers (4-1), off to their best start in nine years, demolished the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2) 48-3 in Sunday National Football League action.  The win, the Niners' most lopsided since 1987, keeps them two game ahead of Seattle atop the NFC West Division.
