NCAA Tournament: Texas-San Antonio, VCU Pick Up Wins

The opening round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament concluded with two games played Wednesday at Dayton, Ohio.

In the opener, Melvin Johnson III scored 25 of his career-high 29 points as Texas-San Antonio, who led by as many as 28, coasted to a 70-61 win over Alabama State.  The Roadrunners, who picked up their first-ever NCAA Tournament win, will face Ohio State in an East Region contest on Friday in Cleveland.  The Buckeyes are the tournament's overall top-seeded team.

In the nightcap, Jamie Skeen scored 16 points as Virginia Commonwealth ended their contest on a 15-3 run to defeat Southern California 59-46.  The Rams will take on sixth-seeded Georgetown in a Southwest Regional contest on Friday in Chicago.
