NCAA East: Stunning Win For Mason (George, Not Perry); Buckeyes Cruise; Heels Say Bye Bye Blackbirds; Marquette, Washington, And Syracuse Win Too

Six games were played on Friday in the East Region of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.


At Cleveland:


Four games were played at the Quicken Loans Arena.  In the opener, William Buford scored 18 points as Ohio State, not only the region's top seed, but the top-seeded team in the entire tournament, lived up to their billing as they delivered a 75-46 beatdown on #16 Texas-San Antonio.


Luke Hancock scored three of his 18 points with 21 seconds remaining as #8 George Mason, who had trailed by as many as ten points, came from behind to knock off #9 Villanova 61-57.


Darius Johnson-Odum scored 19 and Jimmy Butler added 15 as #11 Marquette defeated #6 Xavier 66-55.


In the final game, #3 Syracuse took out #14 Indiana State 77-60.  Rick Jackson scored a season-high 23 points and C. J. Fair added 14 for the Orangemen.


At Charlotte, North Carolina:


In the first of two games in the East Region played at the Time Warner Cable Arena, Tyler Zeller scored 32 points and John Henson added 28 as #2 North Carolina defeated #15 Long Island University-Brooklyn 102-87.  Harrison Barnes contributed 24 points and 16 rebounds to the Tar Heels' cause.


In the nightcap, Isaiah Thomas scored 19 points as #7 Washington held off #10 Georgia 68-65.
