James MacArthur, the actor who will always be remembered for his role as Danny "Danno" Williams on the original version of Hawaii Five-O (CBS, 1968-80), passed away on Thursday at his Palm Desert, California home at age 72.
Mr MacArthur, who was the adopted son of legendary actress Helen Hayes and playwright Charles MacArthur, was the last surviving original member of the Five-O cast. He left the show in 1979, one year before the series finally expired.
It was at the end of each episode as the criminal was about to be arrested, Danno's boss, Steve McGarrett (played by Jack Lord), barked the order, "book 'em, Danno."
