NCAA Tourney: FDU, Belmont Advance To Round of 64

At Dayton, Ohio:

The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament commenced on Tuesday with two games played at University of Dayton Arena.

Game #1:

Darnell Edge scored 33 points while Jahlil Jenkins added 22 as the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights (21-13) picked up their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory, 82-76 over the Prairie View A&M Panthers (22-13).

The Panthers were paced by Gary Blackston's 26 points.

The Knights, as the West Region's #16 seed, will face top-seeded Gonzaga on Thursday in Salt Lake City.

Game #2:

Kevin McClain scored 29 points as the Belmont Bruins (27-5) overtook the Temple Owls (23-10) 82-10.

Shizz Alston, Jr. topped the Owls with 21 points.

The Bruins, as the East Region's #11 seed, will battled #6-seeded Maryland in Jacksonville, Florida on Thursday.

Ducks Did Get Some Support In The Coaches' Poll As Oregon Gets Ready For NCAA Tourney

Riding an eight-game winning streak, the Oregon Ducks actually gained some support in the USA Today/Coaches poll on Sunday.

They would be rated in a four-way tie for #38 (with Libery, UC-Irvine, and Florida, all of whom, along with the Ducks, are in this year's NCAA tournament).

There was no support alas for the Ducks in the Associated Press poll released on Monday.

Quarterback Logan Woodside completed 17 of 23 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns while running back Kenneth Farrow II ran for another score on Sunday as the San Antonio Commanders (4-2) dominated the Atlanta Legends (2-4) 37-6 in Alliance of American Football action.

FCC Smother Timbers In Home Opener

At Cincinnati:

Kendall Waston (15'), Allan Cruz (61'), and Mathieu Deplagne (63') each scored once on Sunday as FC Cincinnati, in their first-ever Major League Soccer home game, dominated the Portland Timbers 3-0 for their first victory.

Larrys Mabiala was ejected in the 70th minute after having been shown his second yellow card, leaving the Timbers with ten men for the second straight contest.

Next up for the Timbers, a trip to Carson, California for an encounter with the Los Angeles Galaxy on March 31 (6:00 PM Pacific Time, ESPN 2).

In Saturday USL Championship action, Marvin Loria scored twice (32', 78') as Portland Timbers 2 upended San Antonio FC 3-1 on the road.

Payton Pritchard scored 20 points on Saturday night as the sixth-seeded Oregon Ducks (23-12) overpowered the top-seeded Washington Huskies (26-8) 68-48 to win the Pac-12 Conference men's basketball tournament championship and the conference's automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.

The Huskies, held to the lowest point total in Pac-12 tourney title game history, had no players scoring in double digits.

GRIZZLIES OUTLAST EWU FOR BIG SKY TOURNEY CROWN

At Boise, Idaho:

Sayeed Pridgett scored 18 points on Saturday as the top-seeded Montana Grizzlies (26-8) held off the third-seeded Eastern Washington Grizzlies (16-18) 68-62 for their second consecutive Big Sky Conference men's basketball tournament championship.

Jaylen Nowell and Nahziah Carter each scored 14 points as the top-seeded Washington Huskies (26-7) held off the fifth-seeded Colorado Buffaloes (21-12) 66-61, despite 22 points from the Buffs' Tyler Bey.

Game #2:

Louis King scored 19 points while Payton Pritchard added 18 as the sixth-seeded Oregon Ducks (22-12) outlasted the third-seeded Arizona State Sun Devils (22-10) 79-75 in overtime.

Jaylen Nowell scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the top-seeded Washington Huskies (25-7) held off the eighth-seeded Southern California Trojans (16-17) 78-75.

Jonah Matthews, Nick Rakocevic (who grabbed 17 rebounds), and Kevin Porter, Jr. each scored 17 points to pace the Trojans.

Game #2:

Mickey Wright IV scored 17 points as the fifth-seeded Colorado Buffaloes (21-11), with five players scoring in double figures, outlasted the fourth-seeded Oregon State Beavers (18-13) 73-58.

Tres Tinkle topped the Beavers with 23 points.

Game #3:

The Big Sky Conference's men's basketball tournament's quarterfinal took place on Thursday with four games contested at the CenturyLink Arena in the Potato State's capital city.

Game #1:

Michael Oguine scored 19 points points as the top-seeded Montana Grizzlies (24-8) held off the ninth-seeded Sacramento State Hornets (15-16) 79-73.

The Hornets were paced by Marcus Graves' 30 points.

Game #2:

Jerrick Harding scored 23 points as the fourth-seeded Weber State Wildcats (18-14), with five players scoring in double figures, outlasted the fifth-seeded Portland State Vikings (16-16) 81-71.

Holland Woods top the Vikes with 19 points.

Game #3:

Cameron Oluyitan scored 18 points as seventh-seeded Southern Utah (16-15) upended second-seeded Northern Colorado (21-11) 83-64.

Game #4:

Keljin Blevins paced the Bobcats with a career-high 27 points while Tyler Hall added 20 points to the Montana State coffers.
