Two-Reel Fun With Buster

From Educational Pictures in 1937, here's Buster Keaton starring in "Love Nest  On Wheels,"  released theatrically by 20th Century-Fox.  In this one, a family of yokels is in danger of losing their hotel home unless they can get a city couple to by a trailer they happen to have for $350.  This was the last of a series of two-reelers that Buster did for Educational.  Adapted by Paul Gerard Smith from the story by William Hazlett Upson, this short was photographed by Dwight Warren (ASC) and directed by Charles Lamont.  Joining Buster in the cast were Myra Keaton, Al St. John, Lynton Brent, Diana Lewis, Bud Jamison,  Louise Keaton, and Harry Keaton.  Myra, Louise, and Harry were Buster's mother, sister, and brother , respectively.

More Fun With Harry!

From Educational Pictures in 1932, here's Harry Langdon starring in "The Big Flash," an Arvid E. Gillstrom production.  This two-reel short, part of Educational's Mermaid Comedies series, was written by Robert Vernon and Frank Griffin, photographed by Gus Peterson, edited by Jack English, recorded by William Fox, and directed by the aforementioned Arvid E. Gillstrom.

It's Kiko To The Rescue!

From Terrytoons in 1936, we present "Kiko Foils The Fox."  In this one, Kiko the Kangaroo rescues a little bird from a fiendish fox.  




Originally released theatrically by 20th Century-Fox and made on behalf of Educational Pictures, this cartoon was produced in New Rochelle, New York by Paul Terry and directed by George Gordon and Mannie Davis, with music by Philip A. Scheib.  Even though the beginning of this film starts with the opening of a TV syndication print that includes the film's original name, this is basically a Castle Films home-market print under the title of "The Foxy Fox!"

Time For A Trip To The Health Farm

From 1936, here's "Farmer Al Falfa in The Health Farm."  In this cartoon, the notorious jewel theif, Wooden Leg Willy, enters the health farm, disguised as a customer.  Can our hero, Farmer Al Falfa, and his canine sidekick, Puddy the Pup, catch Willy and bring him to justice?



This is a TV print, which may have been seen as a segment in Paul Terry's Barker Bill Cartoon Show, which aired on CBS from 1953 to 1955.

All The Kids Like Kiko

Here is a Castle Films print (for the home market) of a 1936 Terrytoons cartoon, "Farmer Al Falfa's Prize Package," which introduced Kiko the Kangaroo.  The cartoon also featured Puddy the Pup.

From Educational Pictures in 1935, we present Vince Bartlett and Billy Gilbert in "Just Another Murder."

An Educational Coronet Comedy produced and directed by Mack Sennett.

Story by Mack Sennett, dialog by Al Tyler, adaptation by Glen Lambert and Olive Hatch.

Billy and Vince are joined in the cast by Bentley Hewlett, Margaret La Marr, Lorin Raker, Diane Temptest, Nellie V. Nichols, and Jack Cooper.

Time For An Early Terrytoon

Time for a cartoon from 1930, "Indian Pudding."  This early Terrytoon was made in New York City and produced and directed by Frank Moser and Paul Terry with music by Phil Scheib.  With financing from Audio-Cinema, this cartoon was distributed by Eductaional Pictures.

Time For Some Rare Buster!

From 1937, here's a short subject starring Buster Keaton entitled "Jail Bait."  It will presented in two parts.  This was one of a handful of mid-late 1930s two-reel comedies Buster did for Eductational Pictures (distributed theatrically by Twentieth Century-Fox).  With story by Paul Gerard Smith, this short subject was directed by Charles Lamont.  Harold Goodwin, Mathew Betz, Bud Jamison, and Betty Andre join Buster in the cast.

From Educational Pictures in 1933, here's Harry Langdon starring in "The Hitch Hiker," with Vernon Dent, Ruth Clifford, William Irving, and Chris Marie Meeker.  With story by Robert Vernon and Dean Ward, this short subject was directed by Arvid Gillstrom.

 

Time For A Newsreel!

Here is a 1925 edition of the Kinograms silent newsreel, featuring Jack Dempsey, a balloon race, women dancing in chilly breezes, a juggler, and opium being seized and burned in Shanghai, China. 



Kinograms, distributed by Educational Pictures, was a silent newsreel that pretty much lasted through the 1920s but was doomed by the advent of sound.  An attempted comback in the early 1930s as a sound-on-disk newsreel was an abysmal failure.

Here's Another Cartoon, Kids

Time for an old Terrytoon released in 1938 entitled "Bugs Beetle and His Orchestra." This cartoon, made in New Rochelle, New York, was produced by Paul Terry and directed by John Foster.






This film was made for Educational Pictures, who in turn, had the cartoon distributed by Twentieth Century-Fox.
