Grey Cup Playoffs: REDBLACKS Knock Out Ti-Cats, Become First Ottawa Club To Reach Final Since '81; Eskimoes Outlast Stampeders For Trip To Winnipeg

Both divisional finals in the Canadian Football League's Grey Cup Playoffs were contested on Sunday.

EAST DIVISION FINAL:

At Ottawa:

The Ottawa REDBLACKS, a club playing in only their second season of existence, knocked off the visiting Hamilton Tiger-Cats 35-28 to become the first club from the Canadian capital city since 1981 (when the Ottawa Rough Riders lost to the Edmonton Eskimos 26-23 at Montreal) to play in the Grey Cup Final.

1976 was the last time an Ottawa club won the Grey Cup Final when the Ottawa Rough Riders defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 23-20 in Toronto for their ninth and final CFL crown.

Greg Ellingston caught a 93-yard touchdown pass with less than two remaining to lift the REDBLACKS to their historic divisional final victory.



WEST DIVISION FINAL:

At Edmonton, Alberta

Quarterback Mike Reilly threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more as the Edmonton Eskimos defeated the visiting Calgary Stampeders 45-31 to win the West Division Final and a berth in next Sunday's Grey Cup Final in Winnipeg against Ottawa.

The Canadian Football League's Grey Cup Playoffs commenced on Sunday with two games.

EASTERN DIVISION:

At Hamilton, Ontario:

Justin Medlock kicked a 47-yard field goal with no time remaining as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats held off the visiting Toronto Argonauts 25-22 in an Eastern Division semifinal playoff.

The Ti-Cats will visit the Ottawa REDBLACKS in the East Division Final next Sunday.



WESTERN DIVISION:

Bo Levi Mitchell threw two touchdown passes to Eric Rogers as the Calgary Stampeders smothered the visiting British Columbia Lions 35-9 in the Western Division semifinal playoff.

Next Sunday, the Stampeders will visit the Edmonton Eskimos in the Western Division Final.
