Here's a two-page magazine ad for the 1956 Studebaker Hawks. That year, there were four versions of the Hawk: The Golden Hawk, which sported the Packard 352 cubic-inch, 275-horsepower overhead valve V-8 engine; the Sky Hawk used the Studebaker President's 289 cubic-inch, 210-horsepower overhead valve V-8 engine; the Power Hawk used the 259 cubic-inch, 170 horsepower V-8 engine used in the Studebaker Commander; the Flight Hawks used the Studebaker Champion's six-cylinder engine (185.6 cubic inches, 101 horsepower).
For 1957, only the Golden Hawk remained while the other three varieties were merged into the Silver Hawk.

The semifinal round of the West Coast Conference men's basketball tournament took place on Monday with both matches contested at the Orleans Arena in suburban Las Vegas. In the opener, Brian Wesley scored 25 points as the top-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs (#7 in both the Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches polls; 31-2) defeated the fourth-seeded Pepperdine Waves (18-13) 79-61 to advanced to their 18th consecutive league tournament final. In the nightcap, Kyle Collinsworth scored 13 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, and dished out 11 assists to net his NCAA record-tying sixth career triple-double as the second-seeded BYU Cougars (25-8) got the better of the sixth-seeded Portland Pilots (17-15) 84-70. Chase Fischer and Tyler Haws helped the Cougars' coffers with 24 and 18 points, respectively. BYU and Gonzaga will play for the conference title on Tuesday night.
The Oregon Ducks' support in both the Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches men's college basketball polls continued to gain strength on Monday. The Ducks would be ranked #26 in the former and tied for #28 in the latter.
The Portland Timbers and visiting Real Salt Lake battled to a 0-0 stalemate as the respective clubs opened their 2015 Major League Soccer regular seasons. The teams' respective goalkeepers (the Timbers' Adam Kwarasey----in his first MLS match since coming over from Stromgodset of Norway's top flight----and RSL's veteran Nick Rimando) each posted a shutout---or clean sheet.
Tiegbe Bamba scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds on Saturday as the Portland State Vikings (15-13 overall, 9-9 in Big Sky play) wrapped regular-season play with an 86-73 road win over the Southern Utah Thunderbirds (10-19, 7-11). The Vikings will play in the upcoming Big Sky Conference Men's Basketball Tournament (they'll face Sacramento State on Thursday) while the T-Birds' season is over.
The quarterfinal round of the West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament took place on Saturday at the Orleans Arena in suburban Las Vegas. In the opening contest, Kevin Bailey scored 16 points as the sixth-seeded Portland Pilots (17-14) snapped a four-game skid by knocking off the #3-seeded Saint Mary's Gaels (21-9) 69-52, snapping nine-game losing streak against the Gaels and defeating Saint Mary's for the first time in five WCC Tourney meetings. Brad Waldow scored 25 points (and grabbed eight rebounds), nearly half of the cold-shooting (30.2% from the field) Gaels' total score. In game two, Stacy Davis scored 19 points as the fourth-seeded Pepperdine Waves (18-12) battled back from a six-point deficit to upend the fifth-seeded San Diego Toreros (15-16) 50-47. Game #3:

In the finale, Tyler Haws scored 30 points (and grabbed nine rebounds) and hit the game-winning jumper from 17 feet out with 2.5 seconds remaining as the second-seeded BYU Cougars (24-8) defeated the #7-seeded Santa Clara Broncos (14-18) 78-76, depsite Jared Brownridge's 29 points and Brandon Clark's 23 for the Broncos.
At Las Vegas: Two games were played at the Orleans Arena in Paradise, Nevada, near Las Vegas on Friday as the West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament commenced. In the opener, Kruize Pinkins and Tim Derksen each scored 14 points as the eighth-seeded San Francisco Dons (14-17) held off the ninth-seeded Pacific Tigers (12-19) 62-58. In the nightcap, the seventh-seeded Santa Clara Broncos (14-17) ran roughshod over the tenth-seeded Loyola Marymount Lions (8-23) 85-54. Jared Brownridge and Brandon Clark each scored 19 points to pace the Broncos. Evan Payne scored 16 of his 29 points for the Lions in the second half.
At Flagstaff, Arizona: Aaseem Dixon scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds on Thursday as the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (17-13 overall, 12-5 in Big Sky play) defeated the visiting Portland State Vikings (14-13, 8-9) 58-51. DeShaun Wiggins went 15 and 8 for the Vikings, who held the Jacks to 31.8% shooting from the field but lost the rebounding battle 55-32. The Lumberjacks host league-co-leading Sacramento State in their regular-season finale on Saturday.
