Sharks' Media Guide

Here's the front cover of the official 1974 media guide of the Jacksonville Sharks of that year's version of the World Football League.

The Sharks folded after playing 14 games of their original 20-game schedule (with a 4-10 record).

On the cover were team owner Fran Monaco, who, when the Sharks' money problems were worsening, borrowed some $27,000 from the other fellow on the cover, head coach Bud Asher, whom the owner soon afterward fired.

Here's the official media guide of the ill-fated Detroit Wheels, who played fourteen games (with a 1-13 record) in the 1974 version of the World Football League before calling it quits.

No, Not THOSE Houston Texans

Not to be confused with the same-named NFL team that began playing in 2002, were talking about the Houston Texans who played in the 1974 version of the World Football League.

This is the Texans' official media guide.

These Texans were transplanted to Shreveport, Louisiana in September of 1974 (and renamed the Steamer).  That club folded with the WFL in October of 1975.

Fleeting WFL Moment In The Big Apple

Here's the official 1974 schedule of the New York Stars of that year's version of the World Football League.

Just past that season's midway point, the Stars were sold and transplanted to Charlotte, North Carolina, eventually becoming the Charlotte Hornets, who remained in existence until the WFL folded in October, 1975.
