CHIEFS OVERCOME ANOTHER DOUBLE-DIGIT DEFICIT, UPEND NINERS FOR FIRST SUPER BOWL CROWN IN 50 YEARS; PATRICK MAHONES NAMED GAME MVP

At Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, Florida:

Quarterback Patrick Mahones (named the game's Most Valuable Player) completed 26 of 42 passes for 286 yards and a pair of touchdowns (while running for another score) on Sunday as the Kansas City Chiefs overcame still another double-digit deficit by scoring 21 unanswered fourth-quarter points as they upended the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV as the National Football League's first century came to a close.

The Chiefs won their first world championship in 50 years.

For Kansas City head coach Andy Reid, it was his first Super Bowl crown after 21 years as an NFL head coach (he previously coached the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX, which they lost to the New England Patriots).

Super Bowl IV

Here's the front cover of the offficial program of the final AFL-NFL World Championship Game, also known as Super Bowl IV, contested at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans on January 11, 1970 as the Kansas City Chiefs gained a 2-2 split of the pre-merger Super Bowls for the AFL by beating the NFL's Minnesota Vikings 23-7.

Here's the front cover of the official game program of the inaugural edition of the AFL-NFL World Championship Game, commonly referred to as Super Bowl I, played on January 15, 1967 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

For the record, the Green Bay Packers of the NFL outdistanced the AFL's Kansas City Chiefs 35-10.

Niners Fall To Chiefs In KC, Lose Jimmy G For Season With Torn ACL

At Kansas City:

Quarterback Patrick Mahones threw for 314 yards and three more touchdowns on Sunday as the Kansas City Chiefs (3-0) held off the visiting San Francisco 49ers (1-2) in National Football League action.

The Niners lost quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for the season after suffering a non-contact fourth-quarter knee injury, confirmed after an MRI was taken on Monday to be a torn ACL.

Niners Top Chiefs At Home

At Santa Clara, California:

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Stevie Johnson while Phil Dawson converted all five of his field-goal attempts (31, 55, 52, 27, and 30 yards) and Frank Gore carried 18 times for 107 yards as the San Francisco 49ers (3-2) defeated the visiting Kansas City Chiefs (2-3) 22-17 on Sunday.

Quarterback Matt Cassel threw for three touchdown passes as the Kansas City Chiefs, off to their first 3-0 start in seven years, manhandled the visiting San Francisco 49ers (0-3) 31-10 in Sunday NFL action.
