Two National League games were contested on Friday as the opening round of the Major League Baseball Playoffs concluded.
At Chicago:
Garrett Cooper hit a home run in the seventh inning while starter Sixto Sanchez pitched five strong shutout innings as the Miami Marlins completed their two-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs with a 2-0 game-two victory.
The Marlins have never lost a playoff series as they now made it seven series in a row.
At San Diego:
Nine pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout as the San Diego Padres won a playoff series for the first time since 1998 as they blanked the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 in game three of their first-round series, which the Redbirds won two games to one.
