Stanley Cup Playoffs: Canes Complete Sweep Of Islanders; Stars Take 2-1 Series Lead On Blues

The Stanley Cup Playoffs continued on Friday with two games.

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

At Raleigh, North Carolina:

Second-period goals from Teuvo Teravainen, Greg McKegg, and Justin Williams propelled the Carolina Hurricanes to a 5-2 conference-semifinal game-four home victory over the New York Islanders that clinched the first four-game sweep in a best-of-seven series in Whalers/Hurricanes playoff history (dating back to the WHA days as the New England Whalers).

The Canes will take on the winner of the Boston-Columbus series in the Eastern Conference Final (that series is deadlocked at two games apiece).

WESTERN CONFERENCE:

At St. Louis:

Jason Spezza and Esa Lindell each scored once while Ben Bishop saved 38 of 39 shots as the Dallas Stars knocked off the St. Louis Blues 2-1 on the road in game five of their conference semifinal series.

The Stars, who now lead three games to two, can close out the Blues with a game-six victory back home in Dallas on Sunday.
