Union Rags, with John Valazquez aboard, nipped Paynter at the wire on Saturday to win the 144th edition of the Belmont Stakes, run without Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner I'll Have Another, who was retired on Friday due to a tendon injury. Atigun finished third.
